This article provides a linguistic analysis of the communicative-pragmatic functions of phraseological units in the communication process and of the features of their semantic change in a contextual environment. The study reveals the capacity of phraseological units to convey information in a concise, impactful, emotional and evaluative form, that is, to comply with the principle of communicative economy. The text also shows, through concrete examples, the semantic transformations of expressions under the influence of context, such as the broadening of meaning, pragmatic orientation and ironic-sarcastic reinterpretation. The article proves that phraseological units are not merely fixed lexical units but an important discursive means that is formed dynamically in speech activity, carries a national-cultural code and increases the effectiveness of communication.
