The Education System in Central Asia in the 18th–19th Centuries (The Example of Kokand)

Abstract

This article is devoted to studying the education system in the Kokand Khanate in the 18th–19th centuries. The introduction identifies the socio-cultural role of schools and madrasas in the khanate's territory and shows their importance in combining religious and secular knowledge. Through an analysis of the literature, the development of the education system of Kokand and the other khanates of Central Asia, the activity of schools and madrasas, the relations between pupils and mentors, and the role of educational institutions in social integration are analysed.
