AI Use Policy
Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including large language models, are used by researchers in many ways. NINE asks authors, reviewers and editors to use them responsibly and transparently.
Authors
- AI tools cannot be listed as authors and cannot take responsibility for the work.
- Use of AI for language editing is allowed. Any use of AI to generate text, images, data analysis or code that goes beyond language editing must be declared in the Methods or Acknowledgements section, stating the tool and version and how it was used.
- Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy of the content, the correctness of references (AI tools can invent sources) and the absence of plagiarism.
- AI-generated or manipulated images and data are not acceptable.
Reviewers and editors
Manuscripts are confidential. Reviewers and editors must not upload a manuscript, or any part of it, or their review, to a generative AI tool. Reviewers remain responsible for the content of their reports.
