Abstract

The consequences of large-scale mudflows for engineering structures, using the examples of Uzbekistan and China, are the subject of analysis in this work. Mudflows, or mountain debris-and-mud flows, occur during heavy downpours and snowmelt and have enormous destructive force. A comparative analysis of the mechanisms of mudflow impact on infrastructure is carried out for the mudflow-prone regions of Uzbekistan, and data are given for the Parlung River basin (Tibet). The anti-mudflow measures used in both countries are systematised. Common patterns and differences in approaches to protecting engineering structures are identified.
