Economic Significance of Protecting Juniperus virginiana from Pests

This article studies the economic significance of protecting the eastern red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) from pests. The role of the eastern red cedar in forestry and in maintaining the sustainability of ecosystems is analysed. From an economic point of view, the dying-off of trees under the influence of pests and the costs associated with their restoration are assessed. The possibilities of reducing economic losses through preventive and integrated protection measures are also shown. The results of the study confirm that protecting the eastern red cedar is advisable not only from an ecological but also from an economic point of view, and has practical significance for the management of forestry and green areas.
